November – An Attempt on a Revolution
with works by: Robert Barta, Julius of Bismarck, Mariechen Danz, Tracey Moffatt, Bettina Pousttchi, Katja Strunz
Haus am Lützowplatz, Berlin
Sept 14 – Nov 18, 2018

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the November Revolution, in the course of which Germany changed from a monarchist state under authority to a parliamentary democracy, the Haus am Lützowplatz is showing an exhibition of contemporary artists. The works were selected in close consultation with the actors involved with regard to the historical narrative, which is linked to fundamental values such as the introduction of the right to vote for women and the freedom of the arts and press, but also to the violent conflict of the German left and the subsequent failure of the first German Republic.

The exhibition project is not about illustrating history, but about creating a resonance space between past and present, in which visitors locate themselves as critical contemporaries. The exhibition’s three chapters „Experience“, „Reflection“ and „Participation“ deal with the aesthetic transformation of historical events.

The exhibition takes place as part of the 100 Years Revolution – Berlin 1918/19 theme winter organized by the Kulturprojekte Berlin.
