Nik Nowak
Zwischen Dir und Mir, Dunkelheit
Kunstverein Augsburg, Germany
Jul 3 – Sep 18, 2022
Opening: Jul 2, 6.30pm

In his multimedia and interdisciplinary work, Nik Nowak (1981) deals with the affective dimensions and potentials of sound and space. In doing so, he crosses the dividing lines between art, science and technology and redefines the formal boundaries between installation, performance, sculpture, video and painting.

Over a period of two and a half months, the work of the Berlin-based and internationally active artist will be presented on both floors of the Kunstverein. Selected works from recent years as well as new works will illuminate his ongoing research and practice on the use of sound as a source of identity on the one hand, and as an acoustic weapon and propaganda medium on the other. Whether it is technically highly complex mobile sound systems or archaic-looking ceramics: all of Nowak’s works are grounded in the artist’s intense engagement with the use of sound as a cultural transmitter and catalyst for activating social change, as is the case with music, as well as with the misuse and destructive power of sound as a means of psychological warfare. These positions are juxtaposed in the exhibition.

The exhibition has the support of Neu Start Kultur and Stiftung Kunstfonds.
